Message from Mrs Mammatt for week beginning 11th May

It was lovely to see so many of you last week for our Class One zoom. It is a very new way of communicating for all of us and both myself and Mr Johnson have been so impressed with both your listening skills and ability to take turns to speak online- Well done!
Thank you to those of you that have sent in messages, videos and photos of the work you have been doing at home. Well done to those who answered the questions to my story-time quiz last week. I shall also be adding another story this Tuesday where the setting is at Wembury beach near Plymouth!

Below are this week's tasks.

As always, just do what you can!

*Read every day*

I have also included 2 very useful books to help your child through this time.

1. A book explaining Coronavirus to children (illustrated by the Gruffalo illustrator Axel Scheffler) can be acessed via the link below.

2. A book called The Book of Hopes: Words and Pictures to Comfort, Inspire and Entertain Children in Lockdown. See link.

You can also listen to 'Coronavirus a book for children' on narrated by Hugh Bonneville. Link attached

Hopefully this will generate some important discussion and answer some of the questions that your child may have.

The Singing Mermaid  (Linked to Mrs Mammatt's story time last week)

Please see attached booklet of activities written by Little Angel Theatre. Here you will find a range of resources including:

  • An author study and link to an interview with Julia Donaldson
  • Facts about Mermaids
  • Writing tasks
  • Creative tasks such as fish puppets and how to make a mermaid.

You might also like to watch the Disney film- ‘The Little Mermaid’ together for some more story writing inspiration. I have provided some under water paper for you to print off and write your stories on.

Continue your amazing diary writing.

Mrs Mammatt’s story-time

Listen to the new story (out Tuesday) and follow up activities with a science focus this week.

For those that have been following the White Rose lessons for Reception, Year 1 or 2. PDF worksheets will now be sent out along with Mr Johnson’s weekly update. The website have unfortunately now stopped providing free worksheets for parents. It is still possible to access the videos.

Mr Johnson will also be adding his usual maths planning for the week.

*  Phonics  Reception  *

Reception are still working on phases 3 and 4 of Letters and Sounds. Below are some activity sheets.

*  Phonics Year 1 *

This week we're revising some of the different ways we can see the  oi and er sounds written in words.

Remember, the sound (phoneme) stays the same but the way we write it down (the grapheme) changes.

Make sure you can use your spy eyes to recognise these graphemes in words.

oi (soil)    oy (enjoy)    er (summer)    ir (first)   ur (Thursday)

I've added a sheet for you to highlight and read.

Have a go at using some of the words in sentences.

Follow the link for ‘SirLincalot’ (this link can be found on May 4th tasks)

Continue to choose 5 words from the 100 (year 1) or 200 (year 2) high frequency word list to practise spelling. Use the look say cover write check sheet and test yourself at the end of the week.

*  Dance Lessons with Miss Squire *

Don't forget to look out for the Parentmail with the links to Jess's dance classes.

Below is the link to BBC bitesize, well worth a look and, if you fancy some singing, don't forget Singup, also linked below.

I have included some simple ‘Under the Sea’ experiments that you can have a go at this week.

On Tuesday I shall also be reading a story that was written about Wembury Beach. The focus is ‘Rock-pools’ so I have included some video links for you to find out some more information.

Have fun learning about rock pools and then why not have a go at making your very own! Have a look at the ideas below.
Have a good week.
Happy learning!
