Gem Bridge

21st May 2018
Class 2 enjoyed a trip to Gem Bridge. We walked along Drake's Trail, stopping to look at the information board. Gem Bridge was opened in 2012 when the old railway was turned into a cycle trail. It stands 24m above the River Walkham, and is over 200m long.
Underneath the bridge, we had a good view of the huge concrete pillars which support the structure. The children made sketches of the Bridge,  and recorded facts about it.
This first-hand experience of looking at the structure of a bridge will help the children plan and design their own bridge during Design and Technology.
